Music/Life Story/About:

Although known to be attached to Miami, Florida, the group began their career in California, with original members:  Dj Mr.Mixx ( Chris Hobbs) Amazing V and Fresh Kid ( Chris Wong Won). After releasing their Debut track Single Revelation in '85, they moved to Miami, Florida as their popularity grew. Soon after the single "What I Like" the group was accompanied by Brother Marquis (Mark Ross). Following a Record deal dished out by Luke Skyywalker (Luther Campbell) Skyywalker also joined the crew as the lead vocalist/Performer, where he featured on the album "The 2 Live Crew Is What We Are" (1986). Songs you may remember from this album include, "We want some pussy" and "throw the D". Achieving Gold status the group caught hype on the underground scene. In '87 "Move Somethin'" the groups 2nd album put them higher on the popularity chain when the sexually themed songs like, " One on One" and "All Day and All Night" hit the shelves.

in 1989, the klans most memorable single of them all, "Me So Horny" shocked the nation, as it made its way onto the top 40,  even though it never got radio play due to its graphic content and dirty lyrics. Labeled legally unfit and an outrage by many authorities as well as religious figures, the AFA (American Family Association) pushed for the Album to be Banned and taken out of record stores. Soon a District judge ruled that album Defied many legal standards, it had been deemed illegal to sell and taken off of the shelves. following this event, 3 members of the group had been arrested for performing the contents of this album on stage, but were later acquitted of the charges that were laid.

This legal uproar backfired on the opposition, and the album, " As Nasty As They Wanna Be" became a target CD for youth. Due to the contraversial nature of the album, over 2 million copies had been sold.  The group then worked out a deal for their 4th album, " Banned in the U.S.A. with Atlantic, where the groups 2nd highest chart climbing hit was recorded. The groups 5th album, "sports Weekend: As Nasty As They Wanna Be" had put Luke Records back in court when MC Shy D sued Luke Campbell for 1.6 million dollars in Royalties. This would be the groups last album with all 4 members.

The crew slowly broke up as Fresh Kid Ice and Luke dropped Solo projects ( The Chinaman and I Got Shit On My Mind). In '94 Luke, Ice and A new addition to the squad, "Verb" reformed as, the "New 2 Live Crew" dropping the album, "Back at Your Ass for the Nine-4". This album showcased a track called, "As Clean as They Wanna be" that threw their asses back into court for plagiarism, as they parodied a song by Roy Orbinson.

Soon after this fiasco, Luke filed for bankruptcy and continues recording throughout the 90s . Verb and Ice found themselves signed to the label, "Lil Joe". in '96, Mr.Mixx, Brother Marquis and Ice reunited the clan and released, "Shake A lil' Somethin' ". Marquis decided to leave the group not long after the album was released. In '96 Ice and Mr.Mixx came out with the album called, "The Real One",  which saw the 59th spot  the top R&B/Hip-hop Albums Charts.

Not many groups have created as much controversy in the HipHop Music industry as these guys. With their offensive lyrical content, sexual rhymes and dirty themes, it was that same course language and vulgar attitude that got them caught up in the spotlight and had them fighting off court cases. Even though their raunchy, comedic and crude approach caused an uproar and opposed the traditional HipHop Style, it was that very stance that put the Miami bass scene on the map and created their immovable position on the charts and in history.

We also must take into account, these guys were getting dirt nasty before Miley Cyrus ( in the mid-late 80s and early 90s) so imagine the tense atmosphere they had stirred up. Some compare their controversial popularity to that of "NWA" and "2pac" , However, it was of a complete and different dimension.  It was reported Record store owners had even been arrested for selling their cds to minors.

No rap group (save, perhaps, N.W.A) has stirred more controversy or provoked more heated debate than these fellows. The furor over the graphic sexual content of their X-rated party rhymes -- specifically their 1989 album As Nasty as They Wanna Be -- was a major catalyst in making rap music a flash point for controversy and an easily visible target for self-appointed moral guardians.
