Credited as the founder and the biggest inspirer of the group, "Capital Steez" has had a large influence on the collectives growth and current success.
With "King Steelo" (Capital Steez) at the center of the crews energy, him along with "Powers Pleasant" came up with the name as well as put on several artists that are now part of the collective.
Next to Capital Steez, co-founders include: Powers Pleasant, CJ Fly and Joey Bada$$.
It all began in 2011, while the crew was still in high school. After a performance by Capital Steez at a local Brooklyn soul food restaurant, Steez and his friends made their way outside, where they would begin a legendary freestyle that would soon be the founding catalyst for the collective.
With the vibes on a unified plain, Steez and Pleasant would discuss the plans of bringing their already connected group of friends together into one of Brooklyn's highest celebrated movements of the era, all while on a bus ride home.
With Steez having already made a fanbase with his prior affiliations with the trio"3rd Kind" and this was crews foot in the door.
In February 2012, The boys release "The SECC$ Tap.E" marking their debut mixtape.
On February 23, 2012, Steez and Bada$$ released the visuals for "Survival Tactics", a production off of Joeys "1999" project. This track/video would quickly catch on with the help of social media outlets and give the crew yet another push towards stardom.
In April of 2012, Steez dropped "Amerikkkan Korruption", with productions and features from Pro Era, Madlib, DJ Premier and MF DOOM.
Gaining a large following, by this time the Flatbush natives up'd their crew to a solid 12 members with Joey and Capital Steez at the head of the flock.
Possessing all of the necessary tools and skills to conquer a movement, the super group would drop their first album: "PEEP the APROcalypse" on December 21st, 2012 (On the end date of the Mayan Calender).
3 days after the release of the mixtape on December 24th, 2012, founding member "Capital Steez" would reportedly take his own life by leaping off of a building in the Flatiron District in Manhattan, but before doing so, a tweet was sent from Steelos Twitter, reading, "The End". Steez was 19 years old when he passed away.
fortune and fame
Following the death of the Pro Era frontrunner "Capital Steez", the media shifted their focus on the group and this gave the members of Pro Era a load of attention. Although the circumstances that led to this publicity were of a negative nature, this gave the group a major boost.
On April 22nd, 2013 the group would accompany "Flatbush Zombies" and "The Underachievers" on the "Beast Coast Tour" beginning in Portland and ending in Australia.
In July of 2013, the crew would catch another tour gig along with Wiz Khalifa, Chevy Woods, Smoke DZA, Berner, Trinidad James, B.O.B. and A$AP Rocky.
In October of 2013, as a result of not receiving an invite to participate in the annual "BET Cypher" Series, the collective decided to create their own cypher on Statik Selektah's "Showoff Basement", which in many viewers opinions made the BET cypher look amateur.
On May 27th, 2014 the crew releases, "The Shift" mixtape under Scion Audio/Visual label.
On December 6th 2014, Joeys cousin/manager "Junior B" passed away from fatal injuries (3rd degree burns) from car accident early that week. Joey wrote this,
"Today We lost a solider…. But I know you’ll be forever watching over… Rest in PEace to my big cuz/pro/brother/manager/guardian/angel. No one will ever take your place and I promise we gonna keep pushing way stronger in honor of you…. No one will ever understand how much of a selfless and loyal person you was. In this last year I don’t know what I would of done without you.. You saved me bro just when I thought I couldn’t go any longer u came into the picture and shifted my entire drive. Never have I’ve known someone so inspired to work and help their fellow peers. It’s kinda hard writing this without crying, I’m so torn apart… But I know no matter what you would just want to see us win. #b4damoney wouldn’t have been the same without you involved.. I’m forever changed but thank you for blessing us with your heavenly gift and may your soul rest in peace… To my big cuz Junior.”
As a result of this tragedy, Joey and the group would go on to cancel their "European Tour".
In January of 2015, Malia Obama (Daughter of Barrack Obama), was seen on social media rocking a Pro Era T-Shirt. This stirred up alot of talk and even brewed up a White House investigation.
The crew would go onto release a behind the scenes mini documentary of their experiences at the "SXSW" tour in Austin, Texas on April 13, 2015.
